Protests took place across the country against Agneepath's scheme
The Central Government had started the Agneepath scheme for military recruitment in June, against which youths who were preparing for recruitment for about a week had created a ruckus across the country. Youth protested violently from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh to Uttarakhand, Rajasthan. Several trains were set on fire in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The youth had vandalized and set fire to the roads, and public and private vehicles. There was a demand of the protesting youth that the government should withdraw this scheme and normally recruit annually.
However, despite this, the government was not ready to drag its feet back on the Agneepath plan but made some amendments to the plan. In the revised scheme, the youth recruited under the Agneepath scheme will get an opportunity to work in private companies after four years of service. Although no post has been fixed for this. It has been said that after retirement they will be able to do any other government job or private job.
Agneepath scheme started in June
Under the Agneepath scheme, the youth of 17 to 21 years will be recruited into the army for four years. Seeing the protests, the government raised the age limit to 23 years. Of these, 25 percent will reportedly be included in the permanent service based on their performance. This scheme was launched on 14 June.
Opposition protest on Agneepath scheme
The Congress party is continuously opposing this central plan. On Friday, members of the opposition, including KC Venugopal and Uttam Kumar, walked out of the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence, accusing them of not being allowed to discuss the Agneepath plan. Congress and BSP MPs had sought time from Speaker Jual Oram to discuss the Agneepath plan, which was rejected.
