The water level of Ganga and Yamuna has picked up pace since Wednesday evening. The water released from Haridwar, Narora, and Kanpur dams is now reaching here. Its effect is visible on the Phaphamau of Ganga, Chhatnag, and Naini Ghat of Yamuna. Here the water level is rising at the rate of four centimeters per hour. The water level of Yamuna is more rapid. There are signs of danger in the coastal areas due to the rise in the water level of the rivers.

Water level rising by about one meter in 24 hours

After the rain in the hilly areas, the local rain is also having an effect in Prayagraj. Due to excessive rains, the process of releasing water from the Haridwar, Narora as well as Kanpur dams is also going on. In three phases, water from Haridwar, Narora, and Kanpur has been released into the Ganga.

According to the Irrigation Flood Control Room, the water level of Ganga in Phaphamau reached 78.09 till 8 pm on Wednesday. Whereas on Tuesday it was 77.19. The water level in Chhatnag was measured at 71.50 meters. The water level of the Yamuna river at Naini was recorded at 77.64 meters. It was recorded at 76.85 meters on Tuesday and 75.86 meters on Monday. If we look at these figures, the water in Phaphamau is increasing at a speed of more than four cm per hour.

As soon as the erosion intensifies, the water will enter the alluvial areas of the city.

People living in the coastal area are frightened by the speed of the water level. While the pilgrim priests are busy removing the checkpoints from the Sangam, the shops set up here are also being removed. Due to the increase in the water level of Ganga-Yamuna, the area of ​​​​cutting has also started increasing gradually towards Ramghat, Phaphamau, Salori. In the next one week, it will only increase the problem. People are very worried about this because due to erosion, the water will move rapidly toward the population.
