Actually, the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of the UK Government has issued a new piracy guideline. According to this guideline, sharing the password of any OTT platform will be considered a violation of copyright law. The Intellectual Property Office said that sharing the password would amount to cheating. In its punishment, either you may have to pay a heavy fine or you may also be jailed.
But if you are living in India then you do not need to worry about it. Because these rules have been made for those living in Britain. Nowadays everyone is sharing OTT passwords with each other in countries other than India. 4 to 5 people are enjoying the platform on the same login id. But OTT companies are suffering huge losses because many people are watching content on the same account.
Britain's Intellectual Property Office said that sharing passwords is illegal because it infringes copyright laws. Video streaming platforms have the right to take people to court. The UK IPO said that piracy is a big issue for the entertainment and creative industry. The IPO further said that it is wrong to post images from the Internet on your social media without permission or watch movies, TV series or live sports in an unauthorized manner.
Earlier this year, a record decrease in Netflix subscriptions was recorded. After this, Netflix officials said that the company would crack down on sharing login and password. However, sharing the password is a violation of the terms and conditions of the streaming service apps. The terms clearly state that people cannot share passwords with friends or people outside the household. But still, users do not follow it.
