On the intervention of Swati Maliwal, chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, the health department of the Delhi government has sent a circular to all government hospitals in Delhi that, if they have a 'burn and plastic ward' and a plastic surgeon, they should provide free sex reassignment surgeries. The commission had issued a notice to the health department of the Delhi government regarding free sex reassignment surgeries. After which the Delhi government took action on this. And the facility of free Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS) has been made available in the Burn and Plastic Department of Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, Delhi.

On this, the commission issued another notice demanding to start this facility in all government hospitals of Delhi. Accepting this demand of the commission, the Delhi government ordered to start it.
