Bank of England warns of recession
A few hours before this, the Bank of England warned of recession while increasing interest rates. Truss said a slowdown was not inevitable and promised to take bold steps against the warnings of his rival. Sunak, however, denied the allegations of the tax burden for the slowdown saying, "It is completely wrong. The reason for the slowdown is inflation.
Lisa Truss is ahead of Boris Johnson in the new survey
Foreign Minister Liz Truss is ahead of her rival Rishi Sunak to replace Boris Johnson as prime minister, a new poll of members of the ruling Conservative Party in Britain has revealed. A poll released by the ConservativeHome website on Wednesday night found that 58 percent of the party's members supported the truss. The new leader will take office at 10 Downing Street from 5 September. Former finance minister Sunak got 26 percent support, while 12 percent were uncertain about his decision. This is the second polling since Wednesday, showing cabinet minister Truss taking a lead over Indian-origin Sunak.
