NIA raids at 20 places including Chennai in Coimbatore blast case, investigation of jihadi connections
Coimbatore Cylinder Car Blast Case: The investigation of the National Investigation Agency has started in the car blast case in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The NIA, which is probing this case, has raided 20 places including Chennai.
Just a day before Diwali, a car exploded in front of a temple in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. A youth named Jashmi Mubeen was killed in this blast. Later during the investigation, police recovered a huge quantity of explosives from Mubeen's house. After this, the investigation of this case was handed over to the National Investigation Agency. Now NIA has raided 20 places including Chennai in the investigation of this case.
According to the information received, NIA officials conducted raids in Pudupet, Mannadi, Jamalia and Perambur in Chennai. Apart from this, raids were conducted in Kottamedu, Ukkadam, Ponvizha Nagar and Ratinapuri in Coimbatore. A jihadi attack was feared in this case. Since then, the NIA has been continuously investigating. According to information received from NIA sources, raids were conducted on the suspects related to the blast and those supporting banned organizations.
The Coimbatore car blast is being treated as a terrorist attack similar to the Easter bombings in Sri Lanka. Tamil Nadu Police officials probing the investigation have also found that Jashmi Mubeen tried to establish contacts with some terrorist elements, including the main conspirator of the Easter Day bombings in Sri Lanka.
Police have arrested five accused in this case. The arrested people have been identified as Mohd Talka, Mohd Azharuddin, Mohd Nawas Ismail, Mohd Rias and Firoz Ismail. Apart from these five, a huge quantity of explosives was also seized from the house of Jashmi Mubeen, who was killed in this blast. Also, jihadi literature was found.
