Zakir Naik in FIFA World Cup: The Government of India has strongly reacted to the invitation of controversial religious Islamic preacher Zakir Naik to the FIFA World Cup being held in the Gulf country Qatar. BJP leader has raised the demand for a boycott of the Football World Cup.
Controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik has been invited to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The Government of India has reacted strongly to this. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that India will definitely take up the issue and that decisive action will be taken. Meanwhile, a BJP leader has called for a boycott of the FIFA World Cup.
Controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik, who fled from India, has been invited by Qatar to deliver sermons at several events related to Islam during the World Cup. Expressing strong objection to his arrival in Qatar, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Puri said that India will definitely take up the issue.
The Union Minister said that he is a Malaysian citizen and can be called anywhere, but what is the point of calling him on a platform about which he has no knowledge? Union minister as well as historian Irfan Habib strongly condemned Zakir Naik for being invited to the FIFA World Cup. He tweeted that he should not be invited to such events. Several others also tweeted criticizing Qatar for inviting Naik.
Meanwhile, Goa's BJP spokesperson Savio Rodrigues raised the voice of boycott of the World Cup, expressing displeasure over Zakir Naik being invited to the FIFA World Cup. He has appealed to the Indian Football Association and Indians going to Qatar to boycott the FIFA World Cup.
The Goa BJP spokesperson said in a statement that giving such a platform to Naik at a time when the world is grappling with terrorism amounts to supporting terrorism and spreading hatred. This is a big international event. People are coming from every corner of the world to see it. Crores of people are watching TV. Providing such a platform to such a person is tantamount to spreading terror and hatred.
Explain that the Government of India has declared Zakir Naik's Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) illegal and banned it for five years. Zakir Naik's NGO Islamic Research Foundation has also been banned.
