India vs Australia ODI series: In the series decider at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, leg-spinner Adam Zampa took four wickets while left-arm spinner Ashton Agar took two wickets to give Australia a 21-run win over India and a 2-1 series win.
The third match of the three ODI series between India and Australia was played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Australia defeated India by 21 runs in this match. Along with this, the Kangaroo team also won the series 2-1. Batting first after winning the toss, Australia set a target of 270 runs in front of India. In response, Team India was reduced to 248 runs and lost the match.
For Australia, leg-spinner Adam Zampa took four wickets, while left-arm spinner Ashton Agar took two wickets to give Australia a 21-run win over India. After posting 269 runs in 49 overs on a slow pitch where strokeplay was not easy, Zampa and Agar helped Australia break India's batting back in the middle overs. Even though Mitchell Starc went wicketless, a fiery fielding show and spot-on fielding placements from the rest of the bowlers saw India bundled out for 248 in 49.1 overs.
Despite India's opening partnership of 65 runs, India lost four wickets for 43 runs after Virat Kohli and KL Rahul shared a 69-run partnership for the fourth wicket. But the chase fell short after Rahul and Kohli fell and India ended on the losing side, which meant they lost an ODI series at home after four years.
With the pitch not offering much help to the fast bowlers, Shubman Gill preferred the pace of Mitchell Starc. His trademark short-arm jab was followed by a six over deep mid-wicket and two leaning drives to hit the left-arm pacer for three boundaries.
Rohit Sharma joined the boundary-hitting party against Starc in the seventh over with a brilliant bounce over long-off for six, followed by a pre-meditated scoop and a pull off Sean Abbott for two fours. Rohit could not swipe down after lofting Adam Zampa for a six over long-on and was caught at deep square leg by Abbott.
Three overs later, Gill missed a drifting delivery from Zampa and fell pad first, giving Australia out after taking a review. Rahul brought up India's first boundary after 49 balls with a smash over Zampa's head for four, bringing up his half-century partnership with Kohli.
