Delhi will get new Mayor today, MCD meeting after Supreme Court's order
The election for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will be held today. Earlier, three meetings had to be cancelled due to uproar and the election was postponed. After the order of the Supreme Court, now the preparations for the mayoral election have been completed.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is all set to get the mayor and deputy mayor today. The election for the post of mayor and deputy mayor in MCD will be held today. Earlier, three proceedings of the Corporation House remained inconclusive due to uproar. After this, after the order of the Supreme Court, the preparations for the mayoral election have been completed on Wednesday. It is believed that a new mayor will be found today. Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena approved the convening of the meeting of the Corporation House last week.
The Supreme Court had on February 17 ordered the issue of notice within 24 hours to fix the date for the election of the mayor, deputy mayor and six members of the standing committee. Along with this, after this direction of the apex court, a proposal was sent by the Delhi government to LG VK Saxena to hold the first meeting of the house on February 22.
The process to elect the Mayor of Delhi and the six members of the Standing Committee was tried three times earlier. But the third sitting of the House also got marred by a ruckus. Three attempts have failed due to clashes between the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party in the House. In such a situation, Delhi is expected to get a new mayor today.
MCD elections were held in Delhi about two and a half months back on December 4, 2022. The results were declared on December 7, 2022. Which Aam Aadmi Party got the majority. After three unsuccessful attempts after the results, today there is full hope that Delhi will get its new mayor.
