Most of these people were going to celebrate Mahalaya. Dozens of people are said to be missing in this accident. Sujoy Kumar Roy, an officer of Boda police station in Panchgad, Bangladesh, said, "The bodies of 23 people, including women and children, have been fished out from the river so far."
At the same time, North Panchgarh District Administrator Zahrul Islam said that women and children were among the bodies recovered so far. The exact number of people missing is not yet known, but passengers said there were more than 70 people on the boat, he said. At present, relief work is going on and people are being evacuated from the river.
In the year 2020 also, a total of 49 people died in two similar incidents. In June 2020, 32 people died in the accident. After this, in August 2020, 17 people died in a similar boat sinking.
