Balbir Singh, MLA from Patiala Rural, has been made the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab. Balbir Singh is an eye surgeon by profession. Balbir Singh took the oath of office at the Raj Bhavan in Chandigarh. Minister Fauja Singh Sarari submitted his resignation to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday morning. Fauja Singh was facing corruption charges against Sarari. On the pretext of Sarari, the opposition was continuously attacking the Punjab government. After resigning, Fauja Singh said that he is and will remain a loyal soldier of the party. With the swearing-in of Balbir Singh as the new minister, the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab reshuffled the portfolios.

Chetan Singh Jauramajra, who was holding the charge of the Health Department, has been given charge of all the departments that Sarari was holding, while the Higher Education Department has been given to Gurmeet Singh Meet Hire to Harjot Bains. The Mines and Geology department of Bains was given to Higher.

Fauja Singh Sarari, who resigned from the cabinet after his name surfaced in the extortion case, is the second minister to resign from the 9-month-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Earlier, Vijay Singla, who was the Health and Family Welfare Minister, was removed from the cabinet on corruption charges.

Fauja Singh Sarari was inducted into the cabinet in July 2022. However, in September an audio clip went viral in which they were allegedly heard discussing an extortion plan to trap food grain transporters. The audio clip was leaked by his close aide Tarsem Lal Kapoor. Sarari has always maintained that the audio clip has been tampered with.
